how do you choose where to fish on shallow big lakes and ponds? have a few places that are big and shallow, i'm having a hard time deciding what areas to fish.    i fish in a kayak so i like to target areas instead of paddling around fishin the whole pond

I'd start with an area that has cover, close to a depth change.  The change in depth doesn't have to be dramatic either.  

I fish the same structure with same lures at night as I would during the day. The only thing I add to my tackle is a Brinkman Maxamillon III Q-beam!

yea i got the lures down pat, just trying figure out what the productive areas will be when the whole pond is pretty much the same

In my experience on ponds with cover that looks the same all over, I've found that I had to target all of the cover. It seemed the cover they were in one day wasn't the same as the next day. Sometimes they were in the same area but they seemed to move around from cover to cover frequently. They go where the most forage is. ?

Go back to where you lost that hog ! Haha.  Everyone has one of those... She's still there.

Throw a bait that covers a lot of water and works well at night in shallows. That way you don't have to be too picky. BUZZBAIT! (unless it's weeded out, then go froggin.)

Parallel the banks with a buzzbait, whopper plopper & Colorado bladed spinnerbait. You can cover lots of water. 

If you want specific areas I’d look for places with current. A creek that runs in, a spillway where water releases. Even current made by the wind. Wind will push the plankton that baitfish eat to the banks & the bass follow.

The main thing you don't wanna do is beat yourself up trying to decide where to start. When it all looks the same, flip a coin or go with an instinct, pick a spot and start fishing. Keep doing that til you find the fish. The sooner you start fishing spots the sooner you'll find them and start catching them. ?

Look for patterns 

 

I don't fish at night from the bank in south Florida.  We have too many snakes, both poisonous and now pythons up to 17 feet long, and big gators.  I have fished at night from the boat, but usually in the summer to avoid the heat, but skeeters will carry you away.  To me its not worth the aggravation at my age.
