How rain effects bass

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I am wondering how rainy days effect bass in smaller ponds/lakes. Learning how to read and interpret the conditions is something I know very very little about. Although I am trying to learn more. It has hard to apply some knowledge because I feel like sometimes fish in small ponds/lakes don't follow the same rules/cycle as bigger bodies of water. I am in the Houston area it has been raining off and on the last 2 days. I am going to try and get some fishing done tonight and tomorrow. I assume the rain/pressure/temperature differences will have an effect on the fish. Would yall be able to shed some light on what effects those might be? Also, what tactics should I use to try to catch them?

The main place I fish is ultra clear water, however I am going to try a new place that has more stained water. So tips and advice for both places if possible would be great.

It's really going to depend on a lot of things; water temp, time of year, rain amounts, ect. In my experience, rain water running into a typically clear body of water will make the fishing much better as it stains the water and makes the fish much less wary.

cast longer distances in clearer water, try using slower approach let your plastic of choice set very close to shore line almost dead sticking then give slight bumps, in stained water the bass do seem to be less weary, use something that makes little more vibration. season does make a difference for example right now in my area bass are feeding on bluegill nesting[shallow]. look for shade or structure, the advantage of smaller bodies of water is it is easier to locate the fish.  best of luck show us a bigun!!
