Placing puck transducer in boat

Featured Replies

Hi guys I'm in the middle of redoing the carpet in my boat and I have it torn down to the very bottom of the boat in the middle where the ski hole used to be.  It says to place the puck transducer for my depth finder in the bottom of the boat in the back. But I'm assuming they are not expecting me to be able to get to the bottom of the boat in the middle there.

What do you think will it work as well mounted there or should I run it back to the back of the boat.

you have to place the transducer on the hull of the boat. that part of the hull has to be under water even at plane if the graph will be at the wheel. take your time doing this, its not hard to do but its easy to mess up. i personal like to use kids play-doh to build an area where the epoxy will be formed to keep it from running all over the place. then use a reverse quick clamp to hold the transducer in place while the epoxy sets.

The ski hole in the middle between the driver seat?  Take a Pic

That would be to far forward on plane you would read nothing - farther back toward the centerline

Make sure you use the two part epoxy to attach the puck. Anything else will have air bubbles in it and it will not read correctly. It cost a little more but anything else will not perform as you want it to.

Yeah thanks guys, I dont know what I was thinking .  That part of the boat is probably out of the water on plane.  If I mount in the hole down by the drain plug in the back of the boat I should be fine right?

how close is it to the centerline?

Mine is mounted right in the side to side center of the boat and just forward of the transom so it shoots through the pad. I get good readings at speed up to about 60 mph and over 100 feet deep.

The job is not difficult - just time consuming. Follow the directions that came with the transducer - all steps, not just some of them and it will be successful. No instructions - call me.
