Phenix K2 TX-765H-C

Featured Replies

Looking at a custom K2 7'6 H rated as 3/8-1 oz. Does anybody has any experience with this blank or any other Phenix blanks? Do they run pretty true in terms of power and lure rating? How does it compare in power to a St Croix 7'4 H  or any G Loomis rod?

Open to suggestions regarding the best blank available for a custom build and best builder.

You will get a lot of answers on that question. For the record I do have a custom K2 rod, however not on that blank. Among many respectable builders the K2 blanks are as good any in the upper tier. Feel, blank weight, looks, performance, etc. I think they are about a half power lighter overall but it could be the model I have. The actions are pretty spot on but my perception of the power could just be do to the sheer lightness of them.

In your example the st Croix is .66 oz heavier but a more powerful blank. There is no "true" power rating as it's all subjective.

I understand that. Just curious as to where the 7'6 H Phenix K2 falls in between St Croix's MH and H or more to St Croix's MH.

I have owned 4,5, and 6 power Phenix blanks.  The 5 is most similar to a MH St Croix for your reference.

Just forget about looking at the letters and focus on lure ratings.  1oz max rods are typically rated MH.  I have a 6 power phenix that I find to be just a bit more than a heavy but not a broomstick and it is rated for 2oz.  If it were a 5 power I would assumr it would feel somewhat between mh and a heavy
