Yup cool gadget and cheaper than merc monitor etc. just bought one for my new boat. 

Yeah, I agree the price point allows you to receive and transmit - if necessary- the needed information on the motor.  I feel comfortable knowing I have a log at the tip of my fingers too.

Does this track the number of hours on the motor prior to the install?

Yes as it accesses the same port used by a qualified technician.  When I installed on my engine I had a good idea of the hours and it gave me the correct number of hours and the current status of your required services!

probably going to do this soon on my 50hp ELPT EFI Mercury. Ordered the service manual to get a better idea on an the maintenance and how to conduct it properly. This will make tracking a breeze.
