Got a good deal on a duckettt triad, 7'4 heavy. However, it looks like the recommended lure weight is only 3/4, and I had planned to use it to go into cover as I didnt previously have a heavy rod. Am I out of luck? I was looking to go to use something closer to and ounce to get through the weeds...

Cover wise you might be ok but want to step up just due to the lure weight.

I have personally never handled the specific rod you mention, but it's important to know the type of cover whether moderate cover, heavy cover, etc and the lures you plan to use.  Also, lure ratings are not always indicative of a rods suitability in a given situation as they are just general guidelines from the manufacturers and tend to not always be perfect.

 

I recommend just trying the rod and seeing how it does and go from there. Experience with the rod is key as everyone has different expectations and differing situations. Hope that helps!

I’m currently using a g.loomis imx pro 884 twfr rated for 3/4 on the high side and spent the last 3 days throwing 5/8oz frogs in a pond with fairly thick mats and pulled 20-30 fish with a few in the 3.5-4.5lb round and didn’t feel under powered once!
