I fish a lot of creek channels that are only about 20feet wide in some areas, how wide does it map/draw? And does the quickdraw feature need to be selected on the screen, or will it proactively draw as I have traditional sonar/dv selected on the screen? 

If you look on page 7 of the owners manual, it will give you the answers to your questions. 

On my echomap you get to quick draw thru the navigation charts, and the deeper the depth the wider it will draw.

If the creek is 20 feet, it will draw all of it. Seems like when I record through Quick Draw it is pretty wide, wider that I thought it would. To get to Q D, you will have to go to the navigation charts then hit menu, then quick draw contours, last. start recording.
