I made myself a promise eariler on this year that was to start fishing docks. I have an internest in skipping docks with a baitcaster i know i won’t learn it in a day, but i think it will be a good learning experience.

Anyway im 5’8” alot of these pros like gerald swindle, or andy montgomery are over 6 feet in height. What length rod do i need? Im thinking a 6’8”, but who makes a rod that length that is for fishing docks?

Price point is varable right now just need some opinions on rod length, brand names, and specific rods you can recommend or point me in the direction of.

Thanks,

Blake

That is a good length.  You want something short enough to clear the console on a roll cast.  For me 7'2" is max and 6'8" to 7' is ideal.  Anything longer than 7'2" and I'm clipping the console wind screen with the bait.  I haven't put together a heavier bait dock skipping rod yet but for lighter weight baits the Steez Skyray and Zodias 610 ML and Zodias 72M  have worked well.

You may find that 6'6" will serve you well for skipping docks.
