I just purchased the Lowrance HDS gen 3 with the 7" screen it has the 3d structure scan this past summer for my bass boat. I'm still amazed at what I was missing out on utilizing only 2d sonar and not able to interpret that thing without a chart. I still feel like I haven't learned about how to get the best picture. My question is how can I get the very best picture of whats on the structure scan (side scan), down scan, and 2d? What khZ should each of the 3 sonar panels be in for instance 2d in high chirp, and down scan on 800khZ? How far should I be scanning out to the sides with the structure scan (side scan)? This defaults to 455khZ on side scan (I called lowrance they said it was normal because of the transducer having 3d capabilities). I think I can change down scan between 800 and 455khZ I have to look back to be certain. I like running 4 screens at once the 4th being my chart screen or I could give or take 2d at times. I generally bass fish in rivers and creeks depth mostly being at 15 feet at times in stained water, however I have seen it 30 to 40 feet. My transducers are the SS3d and the 83/200 skimmer transducer with the structure scan box.

are y'all using fast or extra fast tips? Should I get micro guides or regular?

Thanks, it took a lot of time and money. If I would have known what I know now back before I bought it I could have bought me a new bass boat!

I made myself a promise eariler on this year that was to start fishing docks. I have an internest in skipping docks with a baitcaster i know i won’t learn it in a day, but i think it will be a good learning experience. Anyway im 5’8” alot of these pros like gerald swindle, or andy montgomery are over 6 feet in height. What length rod do i need? Im thinking a 6’8”, but who makes a rod that length that is for fishing docks? Price point is varable right now just need some opinions on rod length, brand names, and specific rods you can recommend or point me in the direction of. Thanks, Blake

I have thought about doing this when its just me, but when I got a partner that's when its going to be tuff. I guess we will have to be on the same page with this.

What ever happened? I thought about getting a Tatula SV reel for my a new rod and trying it out being its nearly impossible to backlash.

I have a 15’ procraft 1520 bass boat made in about 1988. Needless to say the front deck isnt large enough to even lay a 6’6” rod on all my rods are in my rod locker on the left side of my boat. Thats nice, but everytime I want to change rods I have to keep going to my rod locker for a new rod then I dig half of them out to get one. I have rod socks on all of them that did help, but only problem is I want a rod for every technique, and it’s practically full with seven rods and reels already. Anyone else have or had this issue what do you recommend? A new boat isnt an option right now. Ill post pictures later of my boat. Thanks, Blake
