Dumb mistake on bunks?

Featured Replies

I've glued and layed the carpet on my bottum bunks, when I realized that I did not drill holes for the bolts. Suggestions on what I should do? Remove carpet and drill holes or just measure and drill through the carpet? and do some type of patch work over the holes or leave open and fill with marine grade epoxy over counter sunk holes?

you could cut a small X in the carpet or just one slash where you need to put the bolt through and then it will just lay back over the bolt head.

Thanks! That's just what I was thinking.

Definitely make some sort of cut in the carpet.  I tried drilling through carpet before and it seem s to always snag a thread and pull the hole thread out as it winds around the drill tip.

But some thread in studs install them on the back or Bottom of bunks, and then lock nut them to trailer.

Use a soldering iron to sear the carpet in the spot where you want to drill. This will keep the threads from wraping around the drill bit , and the carpet will not unravel around the hole.

Bingo.  add a touch of spray or stick glue to the back of the 4 triangles also

Good tip, I've never heard of that before.
