Well I just cleaned the cork on the rods and realized I don't have any U40 left. 

Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can use as an alternative?

Burkinstock makes a quality sealer 

Marine Spar Urethane cut 50/50 with mineral spirits. Brian. 

Theirs a bunch at Home Depot I never tried them but when I run out of u40 I might they do the same thing problem is they might leave a stain but I don’t care?

U40 is a water based polymer. Stains won't penetrate cork. Just order some and apply it when it comes.

Wrap your cork handles with Rescue Tape and you will really like it.  It is a pressure silicone tape you just stretch while wrapping. Makes for a very comfortable feel while fishing.  If you don't like it just unwrap it....no sticky left.  The stuff is also great to have around the house and it comes in clear, or colors.  No I don't sell it, just use it.
