Fixing canvas boat cover

has anyone found any good ways to patch their canvas boat cover? i have maybe half a dozen holes in mine mostly baseball size. any ideas?

1st what kind of materials is it?

2nd can you pinch the materials togather and tear it like apiece of  paper, if so its rotted and wont be worth fixing it.

more than likely its rotted if you ahve several holes. Might have to get a new one. If its not rotted and still is good take it to a trim shop and they can put some patches on it.

You can get some spare fabric from a boat cover shop and use fabric glue to attach it.  You're wasting your time though if the holes are due to rot.

well, now im not so sure the cover doesnt have some rot. the cover has spent hardly any time on the boat. spending money for a cover tosses a wrench in my mad money fund.

maybe BPS has a sale on them.

Try canvas awning companys before getting a fits all cover. You may get a fitted cover at the same price.Should be some in the KC phone book.

PS they will have to custom make it.

I used to maek boat covers for 8 years and its probably just rotted. Cotton covers can rot just sitting and getting moisture over time. Also UV can rot it.  It sounds like your just going to have to get a new cover. Personally I would go and have a cover made to fit custom they will last much longer and actually protect you boat better. I am making my cover next week for a cost of $35 dollars for materials my old boss had a good deal on a lot of material so I am getting a $12 a yrd material for $2 a yrd. So check you local canvas shops and see. Of course I have to pattern ans sew it but I love doing that anyways.

ive never had a need for a cover, my boats have always lives in the garage. the current cover has spent 98% of its life in a canvas bag in my attic. i guess the holes are from dry rot. id run the cover as is but dont want a shredded piece of nothing for the gravel roads the boat will see more of this year.
