Did I make a good choice?

Featured Replies

Well, my brother drove over my MH white bird rod a few days ago so I was left without a baitcaster for the last few days of good weather before dead winter. Anyways, Dick's Sports was having a sale on carbon fire casting rods plus a 20% off I think so I ended up getting a MH carbon fire casting rod (MSRP $80.00) for forty-eight bucks. Pretty sweet deal. Question is, was that a good choice? It was a bit of an impulse buy because of the sale and because my one baitcaster was broken, but it looks like it gets pretty good reviews. What are your thoughts on it?

In August, I got a MH and H version of the Carbon Fire casting rods and like them.  I want to say they were 7.6 rods, but not sure about that.  At the time, I had a 20% coupon off and got them for around $60 each.  I would grab another for $48 and feel pretty good about it.  I believe they make a spinning version too, which is what I need, so I may need to go check out that sale....

No personal experience with the rod. Id think you did ok though. As long as it fits your needs you did well.

If the rod is comfortable to you and it has the right action for the presentation you are fishing then it sounds like you made a pretty sweet deal.  The most important thing about it is to use it, work with it, and practice all the time.  there are many good rods and reels on the market in many different price ranges.  The more experience you get the more you will learn to like a particular rod regardless of price it will just feel right.  Tight lines my friend!  <><

I think the 20% off ended because it was a one day only thing but they do have a 20 off 100+ deal right now.

I don't know about the Carbon Fire rod, but I do have a Lew's American Hero Baitcast Combo and a Lew's Mach II SLP Baitcast combo and I like them both. In fact, I think that the sensitivity on the less expensive 6' American Hero rod is fantastic.

I just did some digging and they are IM8. I’m almost certain it will outperform the white bird no doubt.

I own two Carbon Fire combos; A spinner on a 6'8" Med Lt and a caster on a Med Hvy 7'.

Love them both and use them constantly...

One can never have too many rods.  You made a good buy.
