In Wisconsin of course most guys are ice fishing.. me dreaming of open water.

 

There is a hydro dam near my home with plenty of open water and shore fishing options. I see guys there in summer, but what are the possibilities of me catching fish when the air temperature is in the teens to twenties... I’m going to go try anyway, but wondering if anyone has experience with this. 

 

I’d probably let a tube or Ned Rig tumble around in the current. Thanks.

Depends on whether it is open water because of the current or the temperature of the water.  If it is just current it will be tough.  If it is like the Power Plant lake I fish, the discharge is warm water and cools through 3 lagoons with canals.  Fishes great in the winter, water never drops below 50 degrees.

Good Question.. I could probably investigate that. Though now that I think of it.. if the water was warm I’d be guessing more guys would be down there.

This is my experience too. I shore fish below a dam that has open water in winter because of current, not water temperature. I've rarely caught a smallmouth there in the winter. With you being in Wisconsin I'm assuming there are walleyes? That's what I fish for in winter to scratch the itch.

There are walleye.. I suppose they would bite there at this time of year. Scratch the itch is right my friend!
