Anyone familiar with the Ambassador 6500CS Pro Rocket?

Featured Replies

Just curious if anyone is familiar with this reel.

Saw one in a rod and reel shop and the owner told me that they can cast very far.

I've seen this reel. A wide spool ABU is more than you would need for bass fishing. It will cast far if set up correctly, but I would go with a standard size or narrow spool reel if you can.

Yea, this is designed for salt water fishing from shore. They use heavy baits, thrown long distance. Abu 6500 holds a lot of line. For bass fishing, you not only not don't need the extra line capacity, you certainly don't need the weight of a 6500. A 5500 series is as wide an Ambassador as you should go. And a 4500 is likely ideal. These round reels are not light - and the 4500 will still be pretty heavy by "today's standards".

Good reel, but not for bass fishing. It's just a wide version of a 5500. I have several versions of the 6500, I use it for light trolling, and cat fishing. When they say casts great, they mean larger lures than are typically used in bass fishing.
