Minn Kota problem

Featured Replies

I have a 55# Minn Kota Powerdrive TM. On the foot pedal it has the speed slide 1-10. When on 1-4 it does not work. 5-10 work? Does anybody have the answer to this? My battery is brand new and fully charged. Thanks for any help.

Either the foot pedal is bad (common) or the maximizer circuit in the TM is bad.

Try some electronics contact cleaner on the slide. You can get this at radio shack.

Is there a way that somebody can check the foot pedal or maximizer? Thanks

Doug

Minn Kota has a wonderful service policy. They have guys running out of their houses or small dealers that know them inside out and will diagnose your issue in 2 minutes. Look one up and run it over there. My lateral shaft motor went out last spring and I took it up to a guy by me. Real nice and fixed it for free.

I've got the same problem with a 40# PowerDrive.  Power won't kick in until between 6 or 7 on the slide scale.  Seems like I may have lost some power overall too but that may be my selective memory.... :)

Thanks for the tips .  I'll try the contact cleaner first then may be looking for a MinnKota rep.  Any other ideas or tips welcome.

sounds like the foot pedal is bad. very common. contact MK and they can sell you a whole new pedal. that is why I got away from using my PD, I was going trough a pedel a year.

Yep..I think its the foot pedal too.  Shame because they cost almost $70 each.

Been considering buying the Autopilot as this would solve the issues with the foot pedal but cost is an issue there.

In any case, I'll try the contact cleaner and see if it helps.   If not, on to other options!

p.s.  Deiswerth...thanks for posting the original question.  Was going to post the same but had other things going on so this has bee a great help.

Just a word of caution, not all contact cleaners are friendly to plastic.  WD40 is a great contact cleaner and will not harm your plastic.

At the beginning of each season I take my PD foot pedal apart and give it good cleaning, pretty easy to take apart. Just unhook the 3 springs and remove screws to access the contacts. I bought the co-pilot attachment for the powerdrive and now I rarely, if ever use the foot pedal. I wear the small remote on a lanyard around my neck and have total control from anywhere in the boat. The co-pilot is very easy to install and works great
