Last Thursday the temperature warmed up to 72F in central Texas.   Caught several bass on a 5 inch Whopper Plopper.  First time ever using the lure.   The tail hook seems to snag into the bass while reeling them in.  Has anyone else noticed this?

Yup. Unfortunately it happens. You can remove swap the rear treble out for a single hook. I do that on my 110’s. 

i have had it happen on smaller fish. Just part of using those large treble hooks.

I personally would not get rid of the rear treble.

Yeah it's gonna happen. No different than a crankbait or any treble hook bait really. Always gonna have some cases of the lower set of trebles snagging somewhere on the outside of the fish if they don't inhale the whole thing. I wouldn't remove them. There's 2+ sets for a reason. 

If you switch over to a single InLine hook, such as what VMC offers, you won't have this problem. It's getting the right size for the lure that you have experiment with. And, regardless of what some folks may tell you - or what you may believe - your hook up ratio will not be negatively impacted. Less potential damage to the fish and the fisherman! I even crimp down the barbs to no ill effect. Been doing this now for 3 seasons on all my blade baits, spoons and crankbaits. It works.

Just crimp down the barbs to reduce damage if you're concerned about it.
