What is this hook called

Featured Replies

I have this hook and I have no idea what it’s called or what to even use it for. I have never seen one in stores to even get an idea. The hook is a straight shank offset round bend, but instead of a line tie at the end, there’s another sharp barbless point. There’s no way to tie this hook onto anything. I have no idea what it’s called. Anyone have any ideas? I sure don’t.

Called a spade end hook. You use a whipping knot to attach it to your line, somewhat similar to snelling. Typically they are very tiny hooks, too small to actually have an "eye" created that line can pass through and attach.

Does it look like this at the end where the loop usually is?

Used to catch fish

Seriously though, they are much more common in Europe. Usually used in small sizes as I mentioned where "eyes" are questionable or not possible. Also common among match fishermen who will tell you they are lighter and present bait better.

I used to use a lot of this type hook, I’m still not what exactly purpose of  this, but to my humble knowledge it help to penetrate fish mouth better when set hook especially in river type fishing.

Yep. Snelling one does that if done properly, but I've never actually tested it with this sort of hook. Looks like it'd be good for microfishing though.

I have not seen one of those in a long time.  I knew a fly fisherman that would use them to make his own custom flies.  He thought the eyelet would scare the fish.  It looked something like this.
