Is my new deep crank rod gonna handle a 10XD?

Featured Replies

Bought a Lews 7'6" David Fritts Perfect Crank glass rod to do deep cranking with. Pairing it up with an Orra Winch and 12 pound fluoro. Most of the time I expect to be throwing a 6XD but there will be times I get up to a 10XD. Was thinking about that tonight and see that TW says the 10XD weighs 1.92 oz and I've notice my rod gives a lure weight suggestion of 0.5 to 1.25 oz. Is this going to be a problem or just ignore it? I would just test it out but here in Missouri it is far too cold and if there is a problem I probably should return it before I use it.

If it were a jig rod I would say it would be a no-go because of the hook set involved.   With a crankbait rod, I would think that your primary concern would be casting.   Just don't try to cast one to the moon and I would think you would be fine.

Lob your cast and it will be just fine. However, I would recommend monofilament for cranking.

Specifically, Sunline Shooter Deifier Armilo.
