What will push a 1448?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Ive been doing some research and have decided to go with a 1448 grizzly tracker. But now my question is, how much HP do i need to push it? Ive got a 10 horse Johnson but don't think it will push that boat good enough.

Hey Tyler, the max HP for that boat is listed as 25 hp according to their website. 10 will push it, how well depends on your objective.

Max it out at 25 hp!

I used a 6hp Evinrude on my 1456 Lowe and am now using a 9.2hp and I regret messing with either motor. It needs the 15hp that it's rated for and 20hp would give me a little room to play with.

Try the ten horse first and if you don't like how it performs then go get yourself a larger motor.

You may find the motor does better then you think it would.

There's always the Johnson/Evinrude 15 with a 9.9 decal...

Any horsepower restricted lakes nearby?

Great answer.

i dont know about pushing,, i like to tow my boats...  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Another thing to consider is the amount of weight you will be hauling around. If your boat is full of gear than you might want a bit more horsepower, rather if its just you a small tackle box and one rod. The choice however is up to you. ;)

I have a 1648 grizzly with a 15 hp(with 9.9 decals),  i fish a lot of lakes with a 9.9 restriction.  It goes about 20 or so with me and my gear in it.  I added carpeted floors and extended the deck, so mine is a little heavier.  If you are fishing unlimited hp lakes, max it out by all means.

I was thinking about getting a 16' boat with a 9.9hp 4-stroke and decking it out for restricted lakes.. So if I went with a "High Output" 9.9hp(15hp) knowbody will be the wiser as long as I keep the speed down and dont drive like an idiot?? Can anyone tell by the serial # what the HP is ??

Probably will be using a 80# 24vt trolling motor most of the time but its nice to know I can get back to the dock quickly if a storm wips up and not lugging across the lake with a under powered motor..

Haha, alot of guys that fish in the tournaments that I do have like 25 hp on a 9.9 restricted lake. They re decal, or just soup up their 9.9s. Older motors can be converted from 9.9 to 18 hp (it might be 15hp..._) Just by fiddling with the carberator

It's funny to see two big boys in a boat beat me and my brother (200 lbs TOGETHER) with a "9.9 hp" ;D

Can anyone tell by the serial # what the HP is ??

My 15 hp Evinrude serial number ends with 15, so maybe.
