Smallies hide until.....why?

This happened a few years ago. It was during the warm light rain. I’m fishing from shore at one of my hot spots. I’m throwing a joes fly in 1/4oz bass size in firetiger apache. I caught 19 bass standing in one spot. I decided it was time to leave. On the way home I stopped at a second spot to try a couple of casts. Well I never seen smallies in this place never. I caught two small mouth bass 3lbers and one 3lb lmb right away on three casts. Do smallies hide on blue bird days then come out on overcast days? The whole year fishing there I only see lmb. Since I was fishing in the open channel with weedlines on both sides should I be fishing in the weeds more than the open channel?

Smallmouth are sight feeders, and love sunny days. Not that they wont hit on cloudy days, but on the Great Lakes, a nice sunny spring day can't be beat!

That "warm light rain" had alot to do with the good bite you had!

It's funny though, because if you pick up an old fishing magazine from about 40 years ago, it would say smallmouth like cloudy days, and not sunny days...???

Smallie are sight feeders. Anytime their visibility is enhanced their ability to chase & feed with virosity is increased.
