what kind of hitch do i get?

Featured Replies

i have a 6 cylinder car, which does not come with a hitch.

so my first step towards getting a boat will be installing a hitch on it.

where can such job be done?

and which kind of hitch will work for a small trailer (9-12ft)?

there are so many different sizes and types, i dont know where to start!

thanks to all who have provided me with answers.

thers a lot of knowledgable people here

thanks!

i would first try yahoo or google for your area and start making phone calls.

once you decide how much weight you will want to pull with the car the shop can suggest a receiver/hitch.

some kits are made so holes dont have to be drilled for the install, if youre a handy guy you might think about doing the install yourself, if youre not 100% sure you might hire out the install.

go to a local automotive store like napa, princess auto, ect. and they will have hitchs for your car.... all you need is a class 2 hitch to make sure that you are good to tow a little alum boat and trailer around.  as for installation it is pretty easy to do if you know much about cars ( i am 16 and can do it) there is usually a book that comes with it or there is always take it to a garage but they charge up the wall.

The local Uhaul can install hitches as well and they are not to out of line with prices.

I have a 2004 jeep and I just had the dealership install a tow package. Transmission cooler and wiring, and a 2' reciever. Cost a little over 600 dollars.

U Haul will set you up with the right hitch for your car, and istall it. also make sure your car has a tow rateing. check your owner manual. some cars are not rated to tow, even with big motors
