I've been considering the Curado DC.  My biggest concern like most people is will the little breaking computer still be working in five years.  Then I thought, if it works well for a few years and dies,  I can just replace it.  Well,  I just checked the Shimano parts web page.  For the $249 Curado DC,  the "B SIDE PLATE SUBSTRATE" which I think is the part that houses the little computer, cost $204.69.  Seems a little extreme to me. 

DC reels have been around for a long time. There are videos of people dunking them in water, then using them.

 

Yeah,  I've seen a couple of the videos.  I haven't seen any where they test it more that a few inches deep.  Depth is the key when testing water resistance.  I agree they have proven to be reliable but still one part that is 80% of the cost of the reel?  I just notice at the top of the parts page that there is a 20% off code so that brings the cost down to $160.

I suspect that Shimano isn’t making a huge profit per each Curado DC sold.  The patent on thier DC system like 5-6 years left on it, I think the Curado DC was made to introduce a broader group of consumers to their tech before $150 DC reels start hitting the market.  

My 150DC is the first I have owned of the DC models. I read all about the buzzing on the cast but it sure does take some getting use to. Not that it is bad or anything, just different.

So are you a believer in the DC concept?   

 

I'm a little weird in that I like to have the same reel on all of my slow retrieve bait casting rods.  I've got six Diawas that I've been using for 20 years.  The time has come to replace them.  I never thought I was that picky about reels but I'm having a hard time finding the right replacement reel.   I bought a Zillion SV TW last Summer and hated it.  I also tried a Kastking Stealth,  it worked okay but it just sounded cheap.  Neither cast anywhere near as easy or as far as my old Diawa 105HiLAs.

I like the reel a lot. It takes a little bit to get familiar with it and get it set how you want it for distance. I ended up with a #2 on the brake and a little bit looser on my cc knob than some of my other reels are set.

I like SV reels for lighter weight lures and skipping/pitching, and Curado DC's for heavier lures with power fishing.

I've got a couple Scorpion DC's that I've had for over 5 years now.  Been beat up in my rod lockers and on the deck, baked in the sun, frozen in cold weather, and soaked in downpours....Haven't had to do anything to the DC system at all.

 

DC is pretty reliable technology IMO.  

The Curado DC has been ordered.  Hope to try it out when the flood waters reced.  Thanks for your help guys.
