Featured Replies

I jusr realized the roller on my hull is gone...mustve came off during a launch.  I am a first time boat owner and am wondering if i'm ok to take the boat out one time before i replace the roller.....theres a hot bite here i want to jump on before the weekend.

thats a simple fix 99% of the time. taking a few measurements and thumbing through a few web pages will solve the problem.

looked into it a bit and yeah, definitely seems it but im planning on hitting the water early tomorrow.  any suggestions on launching/launching without the roller?

The bracket the roller was mounted on is obviously not touching the hull of the boat or you wouldn't even be considering hauling it to the lake.  According to where the roller was located, you could try backing the trailer into to water far enough to completely float the boat off the trailer.  Getting it off that way is easy, getting it back on that way is nearly impossible if there is any wind.  You might get it back on with someone holding it in place while you slowly pull out of the water.

But --- Is one fishing trip worth putting a permanent scratch  :(in your first boat?

floating it is all i could come up with too....perhaps i should delay gratification and wait till saturday....they'll still be in the harbors :)

my usual better safe than sorry behavior gets trumped by my fishing "addiction" at times... :)

You could also jack the boat while it's on the trailer, take the pressure off so you can get in there and switch the roller.  Most are very easy if the trailer has never seen saltwater, a cotter pin or nut/bolt is all it takes to switch one out.

Personally, I would go with Clipper's suggestion and float it off, pull it and repair.

Good luck :)
