Lake Baccarac Lodge In Mexico
I know this has been an ongoing blog/diary thread but I couldn’t find a better area to post in so forgive me. I’m headed to Baccarac in mid January and wanted to know which baits are go-to’s, what color/s do the fish prefer, what lb. line do you recommend and is fluoro a big advantage over mono there (I know in most Mex lakes it is not). Thanks and I look forward to your guys’ feedback.

Mexico Trip
I’ve been there twice and uh, yeah the food is great. ...Thanks?

Mexico Trip
My apologies if this question has already been asked/answered. I’m looking to do a Mexico bass trip late this late Feb. or early Mar. I’m open to El Salto and also Baccarac or Comedero but only if they’re strongly out-fishing El Salto. Who is offering the best deals right now? Thanks all.

Mono
No one's mentioned the invisibility of Fluoro over Mono. Overblown and possibly inaccurate? What do you guys think?

Are Shimano spinning reels pre-oiled/greased?
I just received a new Shimano Stradic 2500HG and although there are oiling instructions in the manual regarding maintenance there is no mention as to whether the reel is oiled out of the box or if it needs an initial application. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks

Best Line for 6XD
I'm happy to hear you guys can comfortably pull such a big bait with 8 or 10 lb line. Definitely feel better about using 12 now.

Best Line for 6XD
Agreed. The problem is there's cover and I need to get it deep

Best Line for 6XD
I'm spooling a new cranking setup with a 6XD and just can't decide whether to use 12 or 14 lb. fluoro. There are good reasons for using each and figure I'll let the consensus on BR decide for me. What do you think??

Rod Application
Shallow or narrow, both work well. Narrow is easier to see with the naked eye - just looks like a smaller version of the reel.

On the bed in the Atlanta area
Was on Lanier yesterday, they're everywhere you just need to find a flat.

Your favorite mono
For non-import stuff I think hands down Sufix Elite is the best mono. Actually if you weighted price into your decision pound 4 pound I think Sufix Elite still wins. The way its wound eliminates virtually all memory and its soo supple.

Rod Application
Good call Ghoti. I actually have the rod paired with a Shimano Chronarch 50E which is perfect as it has a smaller spool than the regular Chronarch.

Rod Application
Thanks for the input. Because most of the shakey-heads I'll be using have a thinner wire hook I think it'll be fine sinking into a fish. My issue with soft tips is they seem to be harder to detect a lot of those subtle bites. This rod would be perfect for squarebills except for the fact its 7'4". Topwater - again too long, I'll be clacking it against my boat all day long. Here's a link to the manufacturer's page on this series of rods. Mine is PGR882C http://www.gloomis.com/content/g-loomis/us/en/home/conventional/rods1/saltwater/PRO_GREEN_SERIES.html

Rod Application
I recently moved from a saltwater environment to a freshwater one and I'm having trouble finding the best application for one of my saltwater rods. It's a G-Loomis Pro Green (model # PGR882C) 7'4" medium power fast action casting rod. For fast action this rod has a pretty soft tip on it so I'm kind of stumped what its best suited for.....shaky-heads? Would love some feedback.

Nearby Nightlife when fishing Big O
Ft Myers & Palm Beach look close on a map but the speed limit on route 80 (the road you'll be using) is only 50 I think so it takes forever to get anywhere not to mention it's one of the most boring rides you'll ever experience in your life. I agree with the other poster - Hard Rock is a blast but a trek and there's no way you'll be back in time for fishing in the morning, in any functional capacity anyway. Drive to Palm Beach and get yourself a nice filet, a few drinks and you'll be back in Clew by 11ish. That would be my recommendation. Just my .02

Where are you staying on lake Okeechobee - Clewiston, Moore Haven, the town of Okechobee?

Lake Lanier?
I recently moved to the ATL area and have been out on Lanier a few times with a guide to get acquainted with how the lake works / what works here / seasonal patterns, etc. I'm now on my own as I have a boat but no one I know here fishes. If anyone knows the lake well and is interested in getting out on the water / splitting expenses I'd be interested - your boat or mine. I'm in my 30's, a professional and easy to get along with. Btw this is mainly for spots and largemouth.

Fort Meyers Large Mouth
These gator comments are a bit off base imho. They're much more afraid of us than we are of them, trust me. RE: shore fishing for bass in Ft Myers, just about every roadside ditch here holds bass (like much of so. fl.) but my advice to you would be go to places that aren't as "on the map." Lakes Park is a county park that everyone Joe Blow knows about. There's still not a lot of pressure even in these areas (people here care much more about our fantastic saltwater fishing) but you can do much better. Drive down I-75 and look east, there are a number lakes built for retention behind retail, hotels that have some beasts swimming in there.

Internet Video of Day 3 Bassmaster Classic?
Yeah I just checked and they're replaying it Sunday. I agree with you with Hot Rod, even day 2 there was way too much rehashed day 1 footage, can only imagine day 3. I also am not a fan at all of Sanders and Zona talking over the anglers while/after they catch their fish (this is new). I love hearing the competitors talk to the camera, etc and while the announcers are good, thats not the time to be putting their .02 in. --Just a thought

Internet Video of Day 3 Bassmaster Classic?
My DVR decided to tape the final day of the Classic without audio, suffice to say I was very dissapointed. Does anyone know anywhere I can view it online? Dying here lol.

Abu Garcia Veritas Rods
Veritas looks nice but 30 ton graphite just doesn't cut it....just my 2 cents

gear ratio for swimbaits
If you get annoyed by reeling slow all day I would recommend the lowest gear ratio possible, otherwise a typical 6.3:1 or 6.4:1 is fine. I'd stay away from 7.0:1 though... unless you're a masochist

Vicious Fluorocarbon
Its brutal. The worst casting Fluoro I have ever used--hard as a rock. On a somewhat separate note- votes on the softest, smoothest casting Fluoro/s on the market??

Citica Steal
Skeet's fishing a Lamiglas in the commercial but it does look like a carrot stix rod.
