  1. I'm visiting my family in Columbus at the beginning of June and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what lake might be good for numbers and quality of largemouth bass. Anywhere within 3 hours is do-able. Thanks ahead of time for your responses.
  2. anywhere within an hour or so either way from chicago (zion to sw mich?).
  3. Inquiring if anyone from the Chicago area has experience fishing the big lake for smallmouth. Spawn should be coming within the next few weeks and im dying to get out there. I just bought a 19 ft. fully equipped bass boat and would be happy to take anyone out who knows the lake. Feel free to post back or PM me 8-)
  4. looks like the pro's just answered my question, wow! (and of course the resident br pro's here too .....falcon it is !
  5. actually it was chappy that told me he didnt want to set up shop there for that reason... im sure there are a lot more factors to consider when youre opening up shop there than fishing it for a few days. e_g do you know anyone down at sugar? falcon is on FIRE right now as im sure everyone knows from the ridiculous sacks those guys are pulling out of there this week. falcon and sugar combo trip (wow!)?? i know southwest flies into harlingen and one of the other major carriers flies into mcallen....just a thought.... e_g where are you? nw in.?
  6. i know the ride from mazatlan to el salto is a rough one once off the highway, i can only imagine what another hour or so on that road would be like (do you know how the safety situation near comedero is right now e_g?)....you can deny how EPIC the bite there is though. I really hate to say this... in my humble opinion el salto is a TAD overrated. i did fish it twice in december with the biggest fish for two days of dawn to dusk fishing being 4 lbs. dont get me wrong, id still go back. although expensive, the food and service were fantastic.
  7. its about 40 miles west of champaign....
  8. im going on a bass fishing trip in late april/early may with a few buddies and wanted some feedback as to where you guys think would be the best bet for some big'uns and decent numbers as well. listed below are a few destinations we're considering. please feel free to let me know of any i havent mentioned. thanks! amistad falcon/sugar lake lake fork clear lake california delta stickmarsh 13
  9. i'm in, the only challenge will be finding reasonable airfare. too bad airlines dont discount for large groups (or do they?).
  10. what i dont understand is how the mexican bass playgrounds are filled with such aggressive heavy feeding fish, yet they're stocked with FLMB. Im referring to the lakes in and around the state of sinaloa (huites, baccarac, comedero, el salto, etc) where all the fish are FLMB, as opposed to the older lakes further south raul is referring to. ive had fish ascend airborne trying to demolish my senko hanging over stickups....2 bass in unison lol. im from illinois so i know NLMB well and although i think their thump is sometimes more distinct, its hard for me to buy FLMB as being more picky and lazy. then again, i dont have much experience with FLMB in the states. .....should that matter though?
  11. i second that notion....day on the lake is awesome...u see how they decipher un anknown body of water, one thing us amateurs actually do more often then the pros.
  12. Im wondering if anyone knows of any products that would fix areas that have 'split' on my boat's drivers seat without having to hire someone to re-stitch. I know they have those tear repair kits but this vinyl (i think its vinyl) appears to have came loose from the stitching and runs a good 10-12 inches long.
  13. Grande, great fish! goodlooking fish too. PM me...im in chicago too and am due for another mexico bassing trip

they tend to group up on the rockpiles off the harbors and near the breakwalls even this time of year.....ill have a shaky head rig ready to go as well as a shad rap jerkbait....people dont realize (even here) that lake michigan holds some beautiful smallmouth (even some LMB) and it isnt purely a salmon fishery
  15. Duma replied to Duma's topic in Fishing Tackle
it will be once i locate the fish

thats a good call but the c-rig allows me to cover more area and search out the fish. i think 2 feet off the bottom dragging that weight kicking up sand is a smart play and I'm such a believer in Gulp products, they really do get me more bites

I'm fishing Lake Michigan for Smallmouth this weekend. I'm going to run a C-rig with a Carolina Clacker in the middle and a Gulp Goby on the end. My question is....because the water is so clear on the lake could I use a foot or so of fluorocarbon from the leader to the hook? I ask because I know fluorocarbon sinks and I want that goby suspended off the bottom. Would a foot a fluoro cause it to sink or should I be ok? Thank you for your input! Regards, Duma
  18. I'm in the process of buying a fishfinder/GPS unit and am wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for the best pricing. I know BPS and Cabela's are around the same....if there are any other website or stores that may have better prices I'd like to know. Regards....
  19. I will probably be relocating to Houston this year and found some places on Clear Lake. I have no idea how the fishing is there. It appears very close to the gulf. If anyone has info on the fishing and quality of it, I'd love some feedback. Will I be fishing for Largemouth or Redfish lol?
  20. Zimmy, what airport do you fly intofor Amistad? San Antonio?
  21. My comment regarding being a gringo had nothing to do with foreign relations, it had to do with the way we're perceived many times when we visit third world countries: a rich American with money. I can't recommend enough getting down there to fish. It feels like being on a bass playground, it's something you really cant experience here. I went to El Salto when I was on vacation in Mazatlan and was so happy I spent the money. PS--If anyone wants to see pics I'd be happy to post some
  22. If you guys wanna do it up in style and don't mind spending a few more bucks, go up to Galena to Eagle Lake in Eagle Ridge Resort. They rent condos there for the weekend and have great golfing as well. The area has rolling hills and is absolutely beautiful. The fishing's also verry good. Largemouth and Tiger Muskie abound PS--There are cool bars there too where you guys can party at after a day on the lake
  23. camping at the above mentioned lakes will be much different than at cajon de pena. tomatlan is very safe from my experience there. the lakes in sinaloa are surrounded by towns that unfortunately you have to be careful in. ive been to el salto and the lodge i stay at is gated. i cant speak to huites and bacaracc but i know comedero can be very dangerous going it alone, lots of ugly stories involving banditos, etc. id do some research before u decide to camp out. that being said, all of these lakes are beautiful and safe if common sense is used. They offer FAR superior fishing to cajon de pena. They all also mandate catch and release....unfortunately its almost the opposite at cajon. any other q's feel free to ask. PS---im a gringo, if youre a native mexican im guessing theres less to worry about
  24. Bassectomy, How long is the Nitro?
  25. I concur, when you can safely say the ices for the year have come and gone, get out there, I know I will be ...seems like this always around March Madness time....at least on a Chicago timetable
