I just received a new Shimano Stradic 2500HG and although there are oiling instructions in the manual regarding maintenance there is no mention as to whether the reel is oiled out of the box or if it needs an initial application.  Can anyone clarify this for me?  Thanks

All reels come ready to fish - greased and oiled.

As a general rule of thumb you should fish the reel through the warranty period before having it services.

However, some of us like cleaning and re-lubing ourselves or having it done up front.
