I bought one of these at academy sports today. It's the 3.5" version. They had them on sale for 25% off. I got it for $4.80 or so. What is an ideal rod length and line type for this lure?

They are a pretty nice bait. I just use my 7 foot medium heavy crankbait rod, with 12 lb copoly.

My apologies. I have the 4.5" lure. I will update the original post.

Will a zebco 404 handle this weight lure and will 12lb mono be fine?

I also have a few of the 4.5" swimbaits. I use 12lb Big Game when I throw that lure. The Zebco 404 should not be an issue, but make sure that your rod can handle the 1.4oz weight of the lure. I don't cast mine super hard, I usually just lob it.

I have a 7' medium heavy rod that I will use. I don't remember the brand but it's blue and white from Walmart. Might be a Shakespeare.

You might need a Heavy rod, like the Shock 7'6". That has a lure weight limit of 3 oz.

I bought a zebco combo tonight. It has a 7' rod and an 808 reel. Not sure about the weight limit.

The spincast combo? If that's the one...the rod is rated to 2oz on the standard combo

The 'Bite Alert' combo is rated to 8oz lures

Looks like the 808 comes prespooled with 20lb line. I would guess that the combo rod would be beefy enough for the swimbait. Only one way to find out, go out and toss it. Go gentle initially, don't try to launch the bait into the next county.
