Clackity play/noise from Daiwa Legalis 1000 spinning reel thumb grip

Featured Replies

I like this little Legalis 1000D spinning reel....except for noise coming from the thumb grip with each rotation of the handle. There is either slop the way it fits over the spindle or there is something up in there i need to clean out. Either way I want to remove the thumb grip to clean/inspect/lube it and see if it improves but I can't get it off!

I assume it is meant to come off, but am not sure, so have not applied too much pressure to that chrome/plastic cap on the end. I tried to pry it off with a small flat blade screwdriver and it didn't pop off. Anybody remove one of these? I know my Shimano's have a plastic end that can be pried off to reveal a screw underneath, that's what I'm hoping I can do here. Just didn't want to mangle it if my approach is wrong...
