I recently bought a Nitro bass boat. The problem I am having is trying to get 24 volts from my batteries to the trolling motor. I have to two postives and two negtives which are connected to the batteries. One postive is red and the other is orange. Both negtives are black. I was told by Bass Tracker people I did not need a jumper since I had a four wire system. I have swapped the cable around but have not found the soloution yet. I have checked the fuses, batteries are new. I am checking voltage with a voltage meter and it is reading 12 volts regardless of what I do. Any suggestions?

First thing is to open the connecter on the trolling motor and make sure the jumper is in the connecter from one of the neg to one of the pos. Does the boat or the trolling motor have a 12/24 switch on it? What year is the boat?

It is 1994 Nitro and no there is not a 12/24 switch.

Check your plug

Order shouldn't matter as long as you've got a neg and pos going to the front. Check the voltage in the plug up front.

I have the same boat and had the same problem. Open the plug coming from your motor and there should be two wires in there the other side should have a metal jumper between the two screws. Make sure that its there and the screws are tight. It cost me $60 to learn this from a mechanic.

I think I found my problem. I bought a Martinex XPS from Bass Pro Shops 3 bank onboard charger. I do not have a jumper wire to make 24 volts. I have two postives and two negtives going to the receptable in the front of the boat. When the onboard charger is connected it blows a fuse. I disconnected the leads from my trolling motor batteries and did not blow a fuse. Has anyone had problems  like this in the past.
