FAVORITE PUNCH RIGS

Featured Replies

"It won't be long," I thought this morning as I was leaving the lake and I saw a few mats forming. One of my favorite punch rigs is a skirted BOSS hub pegged against a T-rigged Gene Larew 6" Hoo Daddy. Do you have a favorite?

Started punching a month ago!  ?

I like a havoc pit boss, or yum craw papi or any slim beaver/creature/craw really. I have been playing around with punch skirts too. One time I punched my way down a stretch I usually do well on and didn't get a bite. I added a punch skirt and went through the small area again and they starting aggressively striking it, it was like a flip of the switch. I ended up catching a bunch out of that one stretch. Ever since then I always keep that in the back of my head, sometimes small changes like that can turn em on when they aren't hitting the lure you are using.

I started useing them when they first came out and has now become a permanent option.

For some reason when I tried useing a skirt with them my hit rate went down!

(I don't get it either)

If I'm going to add a skirt I would just as soon goto a jig!

BOSS Outdoors Punch Weight 3/4 to 1oz , with a Craw Illusion Skirt + Trokar Keeper Hook and Yum Christie Craw or Berkley Pit Boss...that setup produced very well for me last year in July !

No weed guard to contend with when using a BOSS hub. This rig has  treated me good for a few years now. Slips through the mats easier than a traditional jig.

Gambler BB Cricket....Burner Craw.....also like Gene Larew 4" Salt Craw.

Depends on who is fishing the jig!

Down here we throw jigs more than punch rigs!

1st choice - 1 oz. Oldham's Max-Eye jig with a Rage Bug trailer

2nd choice - 1 oz. slip sinker with a Rage Bug or Sweet Beaver

Exactly!

I've often stated that I keep a Texas Rig & Jig-n-Craw rod on deck 24/7/365 but actually it's 4.

Light Texas Rig 1/16-3/8 oz

Light Jig-n-Craw 1/4-1/2 oz

Heavy Texas Rig 3/4-1.5 oz

Heavy Jig-n-Craw 3/4-1.5 oz

4/0 new jack flipin hook, rage menace and whatever size weight gets me through the mat. Gambler bb cricket is my second bait choice
