Fixing a leak

hey guys, my jonboat leaks, but it only leaks enough to just p**s you off.

i am unable to pinpoint the leak, because i think it is coming from under one of the bench seats.

i was wondering if there is something that you can cover the entire hull in that will seal it?

Put the boat up on some cinder blocks and fill inside with water. This should help you pinpoint the leak.

As far as covering the whole bottom I've heard of people using epoxy based paints, or even Rhino Lining for a truck bed,.

I agree with the filling with water idear and dont stress about the bench seats. If that is where the leak is and you really need access, the rivets holding the seats can easily be cut with a cold chisel.  Later after correcting the problem replace the rivets with stainless steel bolts with nylon loc nuts after first applying silicone to insure a good seal. use a small washer under the loc nut to prevent galling the aluminum while tightening. The same goes for correcting-replacing a leaking rivet.

i tried jbweld, but when the boat flexed in the water, the jbweld didnt flex, so it all just flaked right off.

get some of the paint on or spray on can bedliner and just cover the whole bottom of the boat as well as the rivets that are showing on the inside. This worked really well for me, but has to be reapplied about once a year.
