Ive noticed a couple posts about them but I never really paid much attention to them.....till now.  I'm looking to phase out a few of my Duckett Micro Magics and am interested in Powell but would like to know more about them and why they seem to have a bit of a cult following here.  TIA!

I have a 2017 Powell Max 3D 7'1 MH/XF spinning rod. I initially bought it for jig fishing when I first started getting back into angling, and have since pretty much just bought casting rods/reels. But, I will say that it felt more sensitive to me than the Tatula rods that I had, and on par with the Zillions that I now have. My issue with those Powell's is that they're all fast/XF, and the Tatula/Zillion line up had a more diverse rod line-up.

 

They have a new 2019 Max line up, that looks to have upgraded components (alconite vs SiC) and new blanks (green vs black).

 

My current stable of rods is pretty full, but if one of my rods were to break, I would give the new Powell's a shot.

Powell makes great rods for the price. The endurance, max 3D and max series are excellent. They are slightly more stout than what you’d expect but they absolutely deliver when you set the hook with them. If you can find a max 3D 725 get it. It states that it’s moderate fast and suited for cranks, topwater etc. but its a powerful rod & makes a good overall rod for pitching, trigs, c rigs and most anything else you can think of. The most versatile rod in the group imo

Excellent rod for throwing light Texas Rigs, weightless through 1/4 oz.

 

Two years now with zero issues ?

TW has the Inferno 704C at $199 but the rest of that lineup at $109.  Any idea why?

Powell rods are sensitive and have a ton of hook setting power to them.  My catch rates have gone up a lot since converting over to them.  Set the hook with a good hard stick and you're going to get them in, that simple!  

 

I have six-rods.  Four old Endurance rods, and one 3D max.  If you count right that is five, but the sixth rod is my future X-wife's (inferno rod).  

 

I think one thing they do right on those rods is they have a bigger diameter at the handle then most rods.  I have an engineering degree and that larger diameter creates a larger moment of inertia (stop talking engineering WdyCrankbait!), which in turn means they are stiffer and can really adsorb a good hard (and deliver) hook set.

 

You're not going to go wrong with Powell rods, I promise you that.

I own several of different strengths and lengths. Love them all. Very sensitive for the money. And, when the eye fell out of one of them, my local retailer swapped out a new rod for $40. No shipping to the manufacturer and waiting for a replacement.  Not bad for a $120 rod in my book. Most of mine are Infernos and Max 3D's.

I noticed the new line up at a local store a few weeks ago and played around with em. They’re super light, and the new reel seat/trigger feels way better in my hand. 

 

I’ve got a 775 from the last line up that I absolutely love, but I think it’s getting replaced with a new one.
