Spy Bait: Duo Realis 80, G-Fix 80 and 90

Featured Replies

How many of you have used these spy baits? Which one do you like best and why? I'm looking at some G-Fix 80's but could be swayed to the original 80 OR the 90 size if either one performs significantly better than a G-Fix.

A very time and place bait.  One amazing day a year keeps getting them thrown.

I take it you're not a fan...lol. So these are the epitome of a streaky bait is what you're saying?

Landed a 5.5 smallie that won us a tournament a few years back and not another fish that year.  The next year 4 smallies on 4 casts 4lbs plus each.  Then nothing...  I am still trying to narrow down it's perfect time and place.  Does catch fish, but so do a lot of other things more consistently.

I used to fish Lk St Clair so I know a bit about it. Like webertime mentions its a time and a place bait. It is good on high pressure dead calm or light wind days. It is good on Day 4 of the tournament after the fish have been pounded for 3 days prior. It is an incredibly boring technique but it works. When you think you are reeling as slowly as you can you have to slow down more. This technique can catch very big fish though.

I've got 15 or 20 and fish them regular. This morning me and my buddy caught 11 spots off one point that were busting shad. Couldn't get them to hit a topwater lure. I fish the 80 on a light spinning rig and the G-fix and 90 on a light casting rig. In my experience most don't allow the spybait to sink long enough and retrieve it too fast. At time we'll let it sink to the bottom and start a slow steady retrieve . They've just come out with the 72. Got to order some of those now.
