Is 2’ Between Connection and Hook Sufficient?

Featured Replies

On a drop shot with braid main line would 2 feet of leader from braid connection to hook be sufficient?

If you are only running a 2 foot leader, why bother?

That is probably a little short, the shortest I usually go is 4 foot.  Depending on the clarity of the water I am fishing it gets longer from there.  Lately I have just put about 20 or more feet of leader on my spool that way I don't have to tie leader material on all the time!

So tie the hook to the braid and use mono or flouro between hook and weight?

2' is probably about the minimum for stained water. If you've got clear(er) water, I'd go around 5-6'.

I’m going to be trying the VMC spin shot hooks. I know it’ll be one extra knot. The 2 feet above the hook would be for visibility reasons, but if there’s no harm in tying hook to braid I’m willing to try it that way.
