SLX DC hands on review?

Featured Replies

I own a few of the regular SLX reels and am looking forward to trying one of the new DC SLX reels as soon as the LH retrieves are released.

I've watched a few youtube vids but seeing if anyone here has one and what your thoughts are?

I've not fished one, but I have held, felt, and smelt it as they say. The SLX DC is $190. The Curado 150 DC is $250. I would save up the $60 and go with the Curado. Then again, that's my opinion.....

I own 4 Curado K's now and much prefer the smaller frame size of the SLX, hence the reason I want to try a DC version.

Makes perfect sense. Which is why I like the K. Fits my hand better. That and the Curado is smoother IMO.

The SLX DC has a larger frame than the SLX and XT though so be aware of that. It might still be smaller than the Curado DC and I think it's definitely a little smaller than the K. Check out Ladybass on YouTube, she's sponsored by Shimano and has a few videos about the new SLX models.

Thanks, and yes I do realize it will be a bit larger than my standard SLX reels.

My hands are smaller and even though I have no problem with the comfort level of my Curado K's I much prefer the smaller frame on the SLX.

Bump, anyone have one yet? I see they have a LH retrieve in stock 6:3 at TW. I'm considering pulling the trigger but really want a higher ratio as I have a few low ratio reels already that I use for crankbaits.

I have 3 of the Curado DCs and recently got my lady friend a SLX DC. I purchased the SLX DC as I thought it would be a good way for her to learn how to use a baitcasting reel and it has been. I wouldn't buy another one though. Her next reel will be a normal SLX, the SLX XT. If I was going to go to the $200ish range then a Curado K or 70 but not a DC.

Nothing bad about the DC but the "OMG this is cool" factor has gone away for me. I can really bomb some larger lures out there pretty far without much effort, but I don't find myself doing that too often. When I first used a DC reel I tossed a 130 Whopper Plopper super far (like really ridiculously far) and didn't have a backlash. It was great. Then 2-3 feet into the retrieve I fish hit and it was the most difficult hookset and retrieve I have every had to make because of how much line was out. That was my last mega cast I tried to make.

I was able to get all of my DC reels for 20%-30% off so I figured why not give them a try. I wouldn't pay $190 for the SLX DC though, I would rather try to find the Curado DC on sale if you wanted DC or go with a Curado K or 70.

I think the SLX DC and the Curado DC are the same size or really really close to the same size. They are not huge, but not as nicely sized as the normal SLX.
