Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I have more Megabass stuff coming, but will not be in until the end of next week and didn't want to wait that long for a group photo. Its a trap! Those big hooks on the 6th Sense sure do mess up the lure in the package.

When do you tie on your lures/hooks for a day out on the water?
Pretty much the same for me. I retie if I see a flaw in the last few inches of line or if I change baits. I haven't had a knot failure in years unless I intended it like when stuck on something.

Fishing tackle backpack
I have this one and really like it. I got it for under $80. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QQUEIE2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

High(er) quality rods...
If I were looking in that price point, I would get a St Croix Avid or Avid X. Around $220, made in USA (if that matters to you) and has a 15 year warranty.

2020 is proving to be a tough year.
Hasn't been a high numbers year for me either. I get out pretty much every Saturday and Sunday assuming no rain. Going back to April/May when I could first get out (no more ice) it was slow. Got a bit better early June. Lots of heat, wind and rain I only got out two days in July. I am sure the fish are more pressured this year due to COVID bringing out way way way more people then in years past. Normally now there are 3-5 people waiting in lines at a full parking lot to launch were as last year the parking lot was never full. All the extra people are making it less entertaining/relaxing/fun for me this year too so I spend less time on the water.

They are more awesomer. Or maybe it is they are the awesomeist. I mix those two up all the time. For real though, I couldn't say as my order from Japan was cancelled due to importation rules with some US company having the sales rights to Jackhammers. I have seen pictures and they sure don't look much smaller then the normal ones. Only reason I was ordering them was because from Japan they were about 30% or more less then the normal Jackhammers here in the US.

The TGs are tungsten.

Buzzbait
I have landed many more fish then I have missed using braid on a buzzbait. Like literally 30:1 or better.
-
Soft plastics
OK I have to ask, how many fish is that then on two worms? I cant get more then 3 fish on a Yamamoto Senko without total destruction of the bait.

Does TW still take a while to get order?
Yup

Does TW still take a while to get order?
Second day and next day shipping are weight/size based currently, not flat fee like pre-COVID. I just got a shipping quote from TW for a rod, $13 second day arrives Monday and $19 next day arrives tomorrow. If you have a rod + other stuff, it will ship in two packages so shipping will go up because of that.

Boat selection
I have a Lowe 1546 with a 25hp on it. I really like it for mid to small sized waters. With the 25hp I can get on plane and go about 20-24 MPH, but that is WOT. On most days I can get on plane at WOT and then back it down some and stay on plan at about 16-18 MPH. I wouldn't bother with a smaller outboard motor if it were me. If trying to get on a limited lake, I would rather spend the money on a 36v 112lb Ultrex and the features that come along with it over a outboard. I also wouldn't fish three people on the boat, but I like my space and space for gear.

Does TW still take a while to get order?
They ship overnight and 2nd day orders the same or next day as ordered. Ground orders they were saying 3 weeks, but that doesn't seem to be the case more like a worse case scenario maybe at this point. I had one order ship after two days. Another order took five days. At this point unless you pay for expedited shipping, I would only order things that you can live without for a while and if it comes quicker then its a good surprise.

Popular baits you have given up on
Same here. I keep bringing them with, but never want to use them. End up hurting my wrist after walking the dog for a couple casts. Was going to give up on chatterbaits, but after using the Jackhammer I was finally catching and catching a lot. I now never will use another model.

Shimano Nasci ???
They are re-releasing the Symetre.

Shimano Nasci ???
I have a handful of Shimano Sahara reels. 4 or 5 came out of clams and 4 or 5 came from boxes. I see nor feel any difference from them other then the clams are a huge pain to open. Fleet Farm (I think just a mid-west store) has almost all of their reels in clams so they can hang them on pegs instead of locking them in cases. They are a more "self serve" fishing department then some of the other stores around me. The other stores sell them in boxes, but are locked up 100% of the time.

"Upgrade your Split Rings". Yeah right. Whatever...
I never thought much about it but have been using more cranks this year. Sunday I opened up a brand new $15 lure and this was the line tie split ring... I then walked in from the garage, ordered some Owner split rings, a Texas Tackle pliers and have a project for this weekend.

Missile baits nedball, pretty funny
I was just watching the 2021 releases for Strike King this past weekend on YouTube. They are doing a Ned jig with a 2/0.

Switch to Braid + Leader?
I use yellow or lime line on all but two reels and I only use a leader maybe 10%-20% of the time. I still catch fish without a leader. My normal like has about 8-10 feet of visibility. IMO I would skip lime and just get yellow. Lime washes out pretty quick. I have 30lb on almost all baitcasers. A couple with 50lb.

Casting
If you had to estimate, how much longer was the other person expecting it to go? Like how much further was the middle of the lake? Also in my experience, if you have the DC reel set up correctly, it is using more spool break then a non-DC reel. This can cause less distance vs a conventional reel. I can cast stuff pretty far with a DC reel, but I keep the spool break looser then what might be "best" for the DC system to work with. I would normally use a medium rod for a wacky Senko, but a MH would do. The medium would load much more for a further cast.
