  1. I was kayak fishing yesterday and dropped my new phone into the lake. Couldn't recover it and it's gone forever and no way to get it replaced. Any tips on how to prevent losing things in the water? Recommendations for drybags, phone cases, etc?
  2. I am trying to fish for smallies in the Mississippi in Monticello. I never waded the river before. Any tips for first time waders? If you fished there before, mind sharing where you access the river and where you walk in the water?
  3. The brakes on my Shimano DC101HG stopped working all of a sudden today. Whenever I cast, the line gets tangled up and nested and there is no noise at all that DC brakes make. I tried using different brake settings and line type. If you ever had this problem, how did you get it fixed?
  4. Relatively new to river fishing. I want to catch smallies on the Mississippi, only caught one so far. Any spots in Minneapolis to catch them around this time of the year from the bank? What lures or baits? Set up? Trying to avoid crankbaits because they get snagged Will drop shot work?
  5. Hows the fishing in Bemidji? Specifically, Turtle Lake and Little Turtle Lake. I have an opportunity to go fish there on a canoe, but 3.5 hr drive sounds tiring bc I drove to Chicago Labor Day weekend. If it's an absolute must go to catch fish, I'll muster up energy to drive there.
  6. I don't know how you guys fish down there in the south with gators and snakes, but big bass though.
  7. Nice! Saw that happen once. A couple were fishing for catfish off a pier. The dude thought he caught a fish and reeled it in and it was a casting combo. Couldn't see what brand and model, but free gear.
  8. A couple days ago, I was bank fishing at sunrise with a Whopper Plopper 110. Now, these ploppers are close $20. The location where I was fishing is a concrete walkway, so it's a bit high off the water. There is an island with a short 20-30' channel between the island and the concrete walkway. I was at one end of the channel and casted parallel to the island bank. I never seen anything fly through that channel. BUT FOR SOME REASON, 2 geese decided to fly through that channel, really low. One of them was too low and flew into my line. 1. I did not think the goose was low enough to hit the line 2. It was too early for me to think and react quickly. Tried to get my line loose, but the goose kept on trying to fly away, got messy so I cut my line...lost my Whopper Plopper ? What have you caught that is not a fish??? Want to hear some cool/interesting/sad fishing stories.
  9. Same here. A goose was flying super low and flew into my line, got tangled and took a lot of line out this morning. Want to respool.
  10. Ya, I always overthink. I am very OCD want things in and done in a specific way. For example, with this, I want to be fully spooled and not run out and be partially spooled.
  11. Curious... Reel: Shimano Scorpion DC 101 HG Nylon Line Capacity (lb/m): 12/120, 14/100, 16/85 Line: 300yds of Power Pro 50lb braid (Diameter = 12lb Mono diameter) So I'm debating if I should spool my reel again. I ordered more line just in case, but it seems to me I have a fair amount of line left on 300yd plastic spool thing. I have a layer of mono on my reel spool; forgot what lb test. This will be my 4th time spooling line from the 300. According to the specs, Shimano Scorpion holds about 131 yds of 12lb nylon which its diameter is similar to 50lb braid. I should've ran out the last time I spooled or close to running out. However, I have a a decent amount left...or it looks like it at least. I don't think I put that much mono on...maybe I did Am I doing math wrong...is mono really taking up that much...am i missing something...
  12. I have rod sleeves and reel covers, but I do not bring them because I usually carry one rod. I bring the covers when I go on a boat...I don't know why I don't bring them when I bank fish...i should start doing that.
  13. Haha, funny story. I am definitely that guy in the story. I like what you said man. Losing lures, gear mark ups are part of the sport. Like a car...you pay a lot, but gets scratched, rust, paint chips, windows broken, dirty, dents, bumpers break, etc etc.
