So I just bought a new Deeper Chirp fish finder and it’s my very first fish finder. Today I took it out on a local pond and I got some good time getting used to how to read it and identify structure. But in the deepest part of the pond (~10.5 ft) there was a ton of noise at the 6ft mark. I threw a Carolina rig down there to see if it was actually a bunch of vegetation but I didn’t pull up any weeds or get snagged. No resistance other than dragging it along the soft bottom. So could someone tell me what the green and yellow could actually be? 

Also, I had another scan just a little way away from this area. This scan looks like some kind of boulder with a few fish arches right next to it. Is that the right (ish) way to interpret that scan?

Not being familiar with your unit and the color pallet you have it's difficult to give you accurate reply.

The layer of colder water appears to be between 6' and the bottom indicated by the yellow green colors being higher density sonar returns. Brown appears to be the highest density indicated the bottom. Lime green must be higher density then yellow?

Fish ID is worthless, simply indicates air that could be fish air bladder or gas bubbles from decaying debris, same with acrhes however they don't extend to the surface and more then likely fish.

Keep in mind your sonar return at 10' depth of less then 4' diameter.

-Was that on wide/med/narrow? Narrow is really accurate and detailed. Wide is pretty noisy and can return some nonsense but is good for a rough cut. or maybe weeds sparse. throw something with a treble down there on that bright green hump and see what it is.

-if your sensitivity is cranked up too high you might be seeing suspended particles? this is the most likely case for the yellow junk

-deeper support has been pretty good - email them the scan and ask

-go look at that scan on lakebook, sometimes I can see a lot more on the bigger screen

-Tom is right, turn the fishID off - it's distracting and doesn't tell you much

-that pile of arches might also be a light brushpile, although usually you'll get some orange in the return if it is brush of any size.

Love this... remember seeing the movie as a kid and being creeped out... looks like it still might hold up.

 

Could that yellow group be a school of fish? It's my understanding, as WRB and txchaser mention, that Fish ID is not the best option. Like they're mentioning, it picks up all sorts of things that aren't actual fish, and you'll have a lot more success learning to identify the arches.

Correct.

 

Until we can have the electronics pick out the large and smallmout bass all we can do is see the imgages of the fish and hope for the best.
