Deep cranks, and big lipless...what rod?

Featured Replies

I plan to be fishing some 6’-10’ diving crankbaits, and lipless cranks in the 3/4oz range. I have never really messed with the kinds of baits and I have no idea what rods I should be looking at for these applications. What do you like? I am going shopping tomorrow.

cast or spin, same rod characteristics IMHO, 7 to 7 1/2 feet, moderate to moderate/fast action, medium power (look for a lure weight spec in the middle of your planned lure weights to ensure the rod will load properly on the cast).  I like graphite for its low weight.

I would recommend a medium heavy moderate rod that covers baits from 3/8 to 1oz anywhere from 7' to 8'

I have the Shimano Zodias 7'6 Glass rod and i use it for lipless cranks, 10 + foot cranks and it does an amazing job at it. If you have a budget of something like 130 bucks i would suggest a Shimano Exage 7'4 Cranking Rod, Tackle Warehouse has the Exage on clearance for only 79.99.
