I seem to recall reading somewhere that the only difference in the 3000 size down to 1500 BG reels was the spool diameter.  Does anyone know if that's correct?  I saw someone using a 1500 model the other day and I could be wrong but it looked to be all around smaller not just the spool.

Considering the 1500 and 2000 weigh 8.5oz, the 2500 is 9.3oz and the 3000 is 10.8oz...I think it's more than just the spool.

I recently bought a BG 3000.  It looks like a Shimano 4000 size.  Is that about right?

Yes Daiwas are always larger with their model numbers.
