I was surprised to read the article on page 12 of the November/December 2019 Bassmaster Magazine about Earl Bentz and his new Caymas bass boat.

 

Seems Earl has moved the cockpit forward to help balance the hundreds of pounds of heavy four stroke motors, jack plates, batteries, chargers, and power poles and then he over-designed the transom for perfect balance.

 

The article goes on to say the boat has waterproof fiberglass compartments, a large comfort-padded front deck, and abundant tackle storage.

 

With the current boat manufacturers merging and Nitro seeming to want to buy up everything, the Caymas is a breath of fresh air.

 

Hope to see one at the upcoming Richmond Fishing Expo in January.

They’ve been getting buzz, local marine store here has been trying to get a few to sell.

 

the padded front deck is pretty standard now on boats of that price range. The standard 112 ultrex is nice and the livewell system sounds interesting. If they start making more affordable 18-19 footers id start paying more attention. Right now they’re in the 70k price bracket which is way too expensive for most people.  I just don’t see the value over a skeeter or falcon yet. 

There’s an interesting pattern in the boat industry.  Johnny Morris buys the company and the key people start a new company in the same place as the old one.   Vexus is the new Ranger and Caymas is the new Triton.  The top dealer in middle Tennessee is carrying both.  They look like very nice boats.  Earl Bentz knows what he’s doing.

Moving the consoles forward will also offer a drier ride. By doing that, they were forced to make the boat 21'+ so you could lay rods out on the deck. Sharp looking boat.

The livewell system is nothing new, just new to bass boats. Lund's "Prolong" livewell has high speed freshwater pick ups with air injection when you're using the recircs. Saltwater inshore and bay boats have used pressurized livewells for a few years now.

Interesting, I wonder how much it helps fish survivability. I would think if it was a great improvement most bass boats would have them now. 

 

I think on paper the boat looks slick, just waiting for more user reviews.
