I made a stupid and ordered the wrong rod.

So today I received my black friday shopping and I received a rod that was not the one that I thought I bought -- although I quickly learned that I did order the wrong version. I thought I ordered a Daiwa Tatula rod, 7'1" MH/F but the actual rod I got was a 7'1" MH/XF rod.

My intent for the rod was to use it for jigs in clear water, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and T-Rigs when I want to cast them further. Am I really going to regret not sending it back for the MH/F rod? The way I see it, the only thing I might lose is casting distance.

EDIT: The rod I thought I ordered was MH/F, not MH/R.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but TW does not list a 7'1" MH/R rod ?

They list a 7'  ML/R  and a 7' M/R

But no MH/R.

here's  a link to the entire line

https://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/rods/tatulabass/index.html

I do not have any of these sticks so I can't helps as to what they may fish like.

Perhaps, Fish it and see what you think ?

But remember the bait monkey will be watching your every move . . . .

What type of line are you using? Something with some stretch may work for you.

It's a personal preference either way. I only have xf rods, just prefer the way they feel. I use braid with mono or hybrid leaders. Cast plenty far for my needs and don't lose many fish that get hooked.

Near the bottom is a MH/R - it's the only one in the Tatula Bass line

I am sorry, I was still working when I noticed that and googled Daiwa Tatula and it pulled up the older models of the rods. I had pulled up the older version of the rod. It was supposed to be the MH/F model.

It seems to only be slightly stiffer than my older model 6'10" MH/F at least, which is consistent with the rest of the newer Tatula lineup being slightly less fast than the prior gen counterparts.

This rod will likely mainly see 15lb and 17lb fluorocarbon and maybe sometimes 12lb mono.

Yeah that was a typo. I actually own both of the above glass rods as well.

OK.

Certainly no need to apologize to me.

I have no problem admitting that when it comes to Jacking Stuff up - I'm at the Master Level.

Hope it works out for you.

Use that MH Glass rod for your vibrating Jigs -

Go with 17-20 FC.

You'll be Golden.

Yup! That's my usual spinnerbait and chatterbait rod (there are times I will step up to a MH/F too) and I can fish a crankbait or jerkbait on it as well. Pretty all-around multi-purpose rod. But I usually use it with 15lb FC although I certainly could step that up to 17lb on the 6.3:1 reel I normally pair with it and use 15lb with the 7.1:1 reel I normally use for T-Rigs and occasionally jigs.

Daiwa tatula I have is 7’1 MH/XF, I love this rod for Fat Ika, senko Texas Rig and smaller jig up to 3/8. I think that only action come with 7’1, the 7’2 come with R and F.

Try it you will like it, I almost got one more. I fish chatterbait with XF before and I don’t see any problem (use copolymer line). My moving bait mostly using Daiwa 6’10 MF/F.

Do you know what an 'R' action stands for?  I've only ever heard of slow, moderate, and fast and combinations thereof (and XF, of course).

R mean regular on Daiwa reel it more like MF.

It's what Daiwa calls "regular" or basically moderate fast although from what I gather they usually are closer to fast except the glass rods.

At least you still got a casting rod.  I ordered a 6'10" MLF spinning rod late one night.  When I unpacked it I discovered my spinning rod was a 6'10" MLF casting rod.  One letter off on the model number.  Sometimes you have to pay attention.  Meaning me, not you.  :D

I've got an older Endurance that is a 7'2" MH-XF that casts quite far with the Chronarch 100B that is on it.  I have a few OG Tatulas, but the only XF is the drop shot model so I can't offer an opinion on how well your Tatula might cast.

Be sure to let us know what you decide.  And if it is to keep the XF, then how well it casts for you.

Well that goes for the both of us. I actually messed up the action of the rod I meant to in my initial post here as well (put R and meant F). Fighting this earache for the past two and a half weeks has not done me any favors -- just started round two of antibiotics today, hopefully they work this time.

In my case, the MH/F and MH/XF should be all around similar rods, where I personally have no use for a ML/F casting rod (I go spinning for my finesse tackle). I have never used a XF rod before other than my M/XF rod, which simply has taper throughout being a medium power rated for 6-14lb line, so that's a whole different animal. I very well may prefer it for jigs and T-rigs which is the majority of what I will fish on it. I pulled on the tip and it feels fairly similar to my son's Dobyns Sierra 704C which I love for jigs and actually similar to my MH/F, although that is the prior generation 6'10", so it very well should work and I'm leaning towards keeping it.

This daiwa XF blank is not super fast tip at all, it get a little soft tip too which is help a lot on sensitivity and XF help on hookset when long casting. It is cast very good but I don’t use it with super heavy lure/weight.

I did catch quite a good number and quality with this rod.(original tatula but should be the same blank)

Yeah the impression that I got is that it's not too "extra" fast, and feels like it should be fine. Have you ever tried a 1/2oz jig?

Nice cathes there.

Nope the tip is too soft for my liking, I don’t even use my 6’10 MH/F with 1/2oz jig. I have 6’10 H/F zodiac just for that.

Daiwa Blank is a little bit softer when compare to others. It is pretty true to rating on the low side (1/4-1oz) I can cast 4” senko with this rod easily and bomb cast 1/2oz frog a mile away.

I will fish a 1/2oz jig in clearer water on my 6'10" MH/F, usually dragging a football jig over rocks. But I have the 7'1" H/F Jig rod which I use for jigs in thick cover and frogs as well, but sometimes I will have a frog on that rod and up to a 1/2oz jig on my MH.
