Curado K compared to Stradic

Featured Replies

Having recently purchased my first Shimano product, the Stradic FL, I was wondering what the equivalent would be in casting reels? I assume the curado k would be the closest comparable reel.

Very impressed with the level of quality of the stradic so thinking of getting a casting reel of the same quality.

IMO, the stradic reminds me more of a chronarch, which is a little bit lighter and more refined than a curado.

kind of comparing apples and oranges here though! Can’t go wrong with either reel.

That's kind of like asking how a Silverado compares to a Malibu... It doesn't quite work like that.

It sounds like the OP is asking if the Curado K is comparable in Shimano's lineup of baitcasters to the Stradic FL in their lineup of spinning reels, not comparing the two against each other.

While I don't have an FL, I do have an FK and I would agree with @5by3 that the Stradic (amongst the field of Shimano spinning reels) has a refinement and quality closer to Shimano's next level baitcaster above the Curado, which would be the Chronarch.  That being said, the Curado K is a very, very nice reel. You won't be disappointed with it if you go that route.

The rule of thumb for purchasing bait casting reels is to buy the best quality that you can afford.  For bait casters, I'm a Shimano guy, so I'll tell you to buy Shimano.  Diawa guys and Lew's guys will tell you different.

Main thing is what are you going to use it for.  Are you going to throw reaction baits, like spinner baits, crank baits, chatter baits, etc?   Are you going to throw "feel baits" like soft plastics & jigs?

I like my Curado 50 and Chronarch 50 for throwing soft plastics & jigs.  I'd never use them for throwing reaction baits, not enough line capacity.   By the same token, I'd never use my Curado D for jigs & worms, because that reel holds more line that I need for those techniques.   Figure out what you're going use your bait caster for and that will make it easier to figure out which one to get.
