Kayak Trailer

So as many of you know, I have been contemplating buying a bass boat, pending a decent place to store it. Well in short, I haven't found any in town storage, so next year I am going to buy kayaks for myself and the boys, plus it will do my fat ass some good rowing a kayak around and I can use it in lakes I can't use a bass boat. My oldest son wants a stand up paddleboard and likes the Ocean Kayak Nalu which is a hybrid SUP and kayak and probably one of the better models to fish from and I'm pretty sure I'm going with a Bonafide SS127 myself as it's stable and will hold my fat ass and give me confidence to stand up in it. As for my youngest son, the Old Town Top Water 106 or 120 look pretty good for the price, and he's quite light and probably always will be so that should be perfect for him.

So my question is what's a decent affordable trailer that can hold at least 3 kayaks, and preferably survive being stored outside (if it folds up, I can probably store it in my dad's garage during the winter). I found these things (https://rightontrailer.com/product/multi-sport-trailer-with-box-rack/) but I'm not sure how well they hold up and wondering if anyone has any experience with them? They are certainly much cheaper than a snowmobile trailer and much easier to back in to the rather limited space on my hill.

Any input or other options would be appreciated.

I was in to Kayaking at one time and how I didn’t do this I seriously considered going with a Harbor Freight trailer and modifying/upgrading it for the Kayaks. If you haven’t already, youtube HF Kayak trailers and you will be amazed at what can be done with these. Happy Yaking

I have the HF trailer and use it for two Nucanoes with a rack that took about $20 and 30 min to make. Plenty of room for three, and i can fit up to 6 properly positioned. People also buy inexpensive ladder racks for truck beds and use those - its a cleaner look than mine, and i think the HF version is $60.

Something like this? I could add a flat board to it with some holes for tie downs and stack them?

I could then turn it into this:

Yes, If my memory is correct there are 2 different sizes. You can get very creative and there is great feedback and videos of people using them for Kayak trailers

I only see two different weights -- regardless I was looking at something on Home Depot that was the same size and they wanted $650!

From the image of what the guy in that video did, I think I can figure that out. I'm not a metal worker of anything so you can rule out custom stuff, but that seems like something I could do. He even links everything I'd need for the same setup.

If you can drill a couple holes, and put bolts in, you can do this. 3E7890EA-2F36-4BDE-8451-7B0519E49D8C.jpeg.2d2280ebb593f7bb8c976c98690b91db.jpeg

Ah yes, the 2 types were only weight related, thought one was also longer. Some people weld stuff, bolt stuff etc. if you decide to go that route you can use what ever skills you have to modify/customize it to your liking. I would also suggest googling some images to get ideas. Some people have decked them with plywood and wrapped in outdoor boat type carpet or wire mesh. Either can be bolted/screwed in place but I highly recommend decking it with something. If you go this route plat it and tag me as I would love to see what you ended up with.

I use a jet ski trailer $500 used. Holds my two kayaks side by side or just mine up the middle.
I tried to upload photos, site says they are to large and I’m not sure how to downsize them on my phone

Yeah, I just need to be able to cut a few super struts. I already figured out the rest of it. I might try to set it up to have one on the bottom and the upper rack a little bit higher and then two up top as well. I can buy 2 ft superstruts as bars instead of 6 inch ones, I just need to cut the top rails a little shorter than the bottom rails.

Well you aren't wrong, I'm sure I will be paying about $500 in taxes between everything I'm buying this year. But this sort of setup looks a bit easier and will definitely be cheaper.

Email the pics to yourself, the default should be medium, if not then select medium

Other than the trailer itself, I have less than $150 into it.
