Charging Batteries - Cold Weather

Featured Replies

I like to continue fishing out in my bass boat through the winter months on power plant lakes.  The temps are easily in the 30s.  Can I just leave the batteries on the auto charger in the cold weather? Will this damage the batteries?  I usually bring the batteries inside but that's a pain with three big batteries.

Depends on what batteries you have and what charger.

A good battery charger can be left on at any time in my experience. Don't they have an auto mode? If the battery has juice in it it won't freeze and the charger won't know what time of year it is.

That depends on the charger.  I always call the manufacturer and ask before leaving one on for extended periods.  I have been told both ways.

Yup, one with an automatic charge mode. Lots of them do. It will say so in the directions
