Fuji titanium SC guides

Featured Replies

I have a few of these guides on current rods and have noticed the larger guides making a ticking / clicking noise when the rod is cast or also working a bait. Insert seems secure but maybe hitting the frame? Curious if anyone else has noticed this. Its typically the largest guide in the guide train. Thanks

Put masking tape on the inside of the guide and talcum powder the frame than cast it, any removal of the powder is line hitting the guide frame, SiC guide rings are great transmitters of heat and noise.

Thanks Spoonplugger, the guide will make the noise with no line at all. Just shaking the rod a little with no reel at all you can hear it very well.

You sure it's a guide?  I believe those Ti guide rings are glued in and not pressed.  If the insert was loose, it would fall out.  I've had a couple ticky rods and upon inspection, the blanks were crushed/cracked and the noise was the carbon fibers rubbing together

You are correct. The insert seems glued. After looking at it I think I found the area. It's from the back of the guide right where it comes off the blank. Epoxy is not cracked but if u push the guide there is a little air bubble or something you can see. It's almost like the guide is ticking on the blank the threads and epoxy are thin but must be that little pocket behind the guide.

S has a point, if the guide wrap under the finish are loose and the blank is moving underneath then they make noise, if the guides are put on with sharp tips, or burred edges, or both they can cut through the blank, or at the very least scratch the crap out of it under the wraps sometimes you'll hear it.
