which is the better deal?

Featured Replies

so im finally going to make my purchase for my first SOT kayak. I have two choices. Let me know what you guys would suggest is the better deal.

The Sun Dolphin Journey 10 SS, with paddle, anchor, and kayak dolly for $200

or

A malibukayak mini x for $150

If it is in fact this one: https://malibukayaks.com/kayaks/mini-x/

If it were me, I would go the Mini X route. That seems to be the better value for the fishing aspect, not to mention a little wider, more stable.

I get that the dolphin comes with a paddle, anchor, and kayak dolly.  But never owning one before, I'd question the quality of that paddle.  If I had to guess, you'd be buying a new/upgraded paddle at one point.  Depending on the waters you fish.  But I s'pose the Dolphin paddle would be enough to get you started.  I wouldn't skimp on a paddle though.

Assuming both come with a seat?

You would most likely be modifying either one you go with, I would assume.  So keep the desired modifications in mind when selecting.  But if you had to, an anchor, and kayak dolly could be had for fairly cheap.  I wouldn't let those "included items" weigh on your decision.  but that's just me.

But, Mini X, final answer.
