Lake Curtis near Stafford, VA

Featured Replies

Anyone launch a boat there?  Is there a ramp, is it concrete, is there a drop off on it near the shore or well under water?  Thinking about putting in my 17'6" G3 and know the motor would have to stay up...TM only.  I went up to Lake Brittle and there is a nice ramp, but absolutely no room to position a truck to back down the ramp.  Looking for something different than the Potomac for windy days.  I am in Dumfries.  Thanks for any help.

Curiously, I've never heard of it.  Sat images look like concrete ramp.  I'd be interested to know how you do there.

Mooney is interesting, but probably a difficult launch.  Smith is another one that intrigues me -- only had a yak on it once...and the only ramps I know are on Quantico, but there are probably others on the other side.  Lake Ridge is open year round, so you can TM the Occoquan reservoir.   I'm not sure if Pelham is open year round, but you can call Orange city.  The ramps on both ends should be good for you.  Burke should be ok to launch, also -- not the park, but the 'fisherman ramp'.

It has a nice ramp , lots of space  for your truck to turn around and back in,and yes it has a nice concrete ramp. just watch lower end  to right lots of stick ups.

Is that ramp at Burke Lake easy to in and out of?  I know where it is, but have never looked at it close.

I have been 3 or 4 times, but only with kayaks....and not at all last year.  But to best of my recollection,  it is a surprisingly decent ramp.  Not certain about turnabout or trailer parking,  but I think it is fine.

Thanks much.  I can off my duff and drive up there in 20 minutes to look at it.

The ramp at Burke is fine, and for the boats that should be putting in there, turning around should be no problem.  The problem is there are a ton of runners, dog walkers, and bicyclists who use the VDGIF lot because there's no entrance fee.  I go to that lake because it's the closest to me, but it's usually to try things out, not to do a lot of fishing.  To say that you are never alone is an understatement there.
