Looking for reel selection opinions

Featured Replies

So, I have 5 baitcasting rods and 5 reels. I'm looking for opinions on which reels to mount on which rods. Here's what I've got.

-7'3" Xh fast frog/flippin rod

-7'0" Mh fast plan to use for bottom.     contact type baits.

-7'3" Mh mod for bigger treble hook baits

-7'0" Med fast I use for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits.

-6'10" Med mod topwater rod. Small treble hook baits.

And for reels..

-Caenan 6.3

-Chronarch Ci4 7.6

-Curado 70 7.2

-Curado K 7.4

-Slx Mgl 8.2

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to give me their advice and opinions on which reel should go where.

Off the top of my head?

SLX 8.2 on the XH/F

Caenan 6.3 on the MH/Mod

Curado 70 7.2 on the Med/Mod

Last two - either/or the MH/F and M/F

SLX on the XH, why?  High speed for more pitching and getting that slack out your frog for a hookset, or getting the frog back in and out after a miss.

Curado 70 on the 7' MH.  Speed to take up slack, etc.  I like a higher speed reel for streamlined bottom contact baits.

Curado K on the 7'3".  Bigger reel to handle the larger baits.

Caenan for the spinnerbait/chatterbait stick.  Slower ratio to not wear you out.

Chronarch for the topwaters.

This is what I was thinking. Thanks!

I was going to tell you 'Daiwa', but I see that isn't the 'reel selection opinions' you are looking for.  :teeth:

I don't like suggesting combos....especially when I obsess over my own combos.

I figure the Curado K is a beefier reel than the SLX so I would agree about using it on the frog rod.  My dedicated frog rod kept in Florida had a Curado 201E7 on it last year.  Unfortunately we didn't get out only 3 days and weather wasn't very good for frogs (February) where I was.  My first year fishing frogs so what do I know?  :sad78:

I kind of like this idea too. I have two, 96mm handles i can put one on the Ci4/crankbait rod and the other on the Caenan.
